Dogstumes!

Today's Dogstume is the Monkey Costume!

"Dress your dog up in style for Halloween, costume parties or any other occasion. This clever monkey costume is a barrel of laughs and it’s designed with your best friend’s comfort in mind.

Ultra-soft, brown, swirl patterned plush fabric makes up the head, body and tail, while the ears and belly are made of shorter, nude plush. The long tail is bendable, so you can get creative. A free fleece banana squeak toy adds to the effect. Velcro® fasteners from the costume neck to the belly help make the dog costume easy to put on and take off. The lower belly area is open for comfort and a there’s a leash hole for your convenience.

Both the fabric and the non-stick liner are 100% polyester, so care is easy. Simply machine wash the outfit on a gentle cycle in cold water, then hang it to dry. Make a monkey out of your mutt for any event."

Tuesday Tricks!

Today's Tuesday Trick will be teaching your dog to stop jumping on furniture and people!

"Stop Your Dog From Jumping on Furniture

1. Take your pup off the furniture and say "Off!" Teach your puppy early on that you do not favor her sitting on the furniture.

2. Be consistent. It's important that you don't allow your dog to jump up on furniture one day and then punish her the next time she jumps on the couch.

3. Try not to leave food on the countertops and tables. These are temptations that a dog in training cannot resist.

4. Limit your pup's roaming area to places that don't have furniture with nesting qualities if your dog jumps on furniture while you're gone.

5. Consult a pet behaviorist if the behavior persists.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stop Your Pet From Jumping on People
1. Be consistent with puppies and dogs; it's counterproductive to discourage your dog from jumping on others, while allowing her to jump on you and lick your face.
2. Turn all the way around when you first walk in the door and your dog leaps up on you.
3. Wait until your dog stops jumping, and say "Good!" the moment she does.
4. Command your pup to sit if she knows the command, and don't touch her until she does. Again, be consistent.
5. Tell your dog to find her toy if she doesn't know "sit." This redirects your pup's energy from jumping on you to finding her toy.
Step
6. Practice "no jump" with friends once your dog learns not to pounce on you. Have friends give treats and praise when your dog succeeds.
Step
7. Anticipate potential jumping situations, and tell your dog to sit or redirect her attention to something else.
Step
8. Praise your dog when she doesn't jump, especially during situations that might give her reasonable cause."
Tuesday Tricks!
Today's Tuesday Trick will be "jump!"
#1. Get a lot of treats.
#2. Take a treat when your dog is either lying down or sitting and hold it about 2 feet above their nose.
#3. If they start sitting their and begging, raise the treat higher.
#4. They should start doing little hops into the air and this should be leading to jumping.
#5. Once they jump high in the air and get the treat out of your hand, you say "jump!"
P.S. This is a very hard trick for most dogs and might take a while so you probably want to practice it a lot of times. :)
Tuesday Tricks!
Today's Tuesday Trick is "play dead!"
"Play Dead
This is an age-old move your friends will marvel at over and over again.
Use a food lure to teach your dog to lie down. As he sits, hold the snack in front of his nose and quickly move it down to his paws, saying "Down!" as you do so. Repeat until he lies down on command.
Next, teach your pooch to roll on to his back. While he's lying down, hold a snack in front of his nose with your right hand and move it in an 8-inch clockwise rotation. This will cause the dog's head and upper body to twist around. At the same time, gently push on his upper belly with your left hand. "Most of the time, the dog will immediately roll over and throw his legs up so you can scratch his belly," notes Wayne Hunthausen, DVM, the owner of Animal Behavior Consultations in Westwood, Kansas. As the dog rolls over, say "Roll over!" Repeat until he has it down, then start using only the snack and circular motion.
The last stage is a slow transition from the circular motion to pointing at your pet and saying, "Play dead." Gradually go from making a circular movement to pointing as you stand farther and farther away, repeating the cue word every time. Eventually, your pet will roll over dead every time you point at him and say "Play dead."
