Dogavinci!

Today, I will be showing you another marvelous painting called 'The Consversation' by Jim Daly. In this painting, a boy seems to be talking to a beagle in the grass. Here's some information about the artist, Jim Daly:

"Jim Daly's personal journey from orphan to head of an international Christian organization dedicated to helping families thrive is a powerful story. Abandoned by his alcoholic father at age 5, Daly lost his mother to cancer four years later – a wound deepened when his grieving stepfather emptied the family home and took off with almost everything while Daly, the youngest of five children, and his siblings were at their mother's funeral.

Several tough years in foster care followed, before Daly became a Christian in high school and found meaning, purpose and a sense of belonging.

"I am living proof," he wrote in his 2007 autobiography, Finding Home, "that no matter how torn up the road has already been, or how pothole-infested it may look ahead, nothing – nothing – is impossible for God."

Daly assumed the presidency of Focus on the Family in 2005 after 16 years with the ministry. He started his career in 1989 as an assistant to the president, where his primary duties were fostering relationships with supporters. When the International Department was created in 1992, Daly was appointed field director for Asia, Africa and Australia. In 1997, he was promoted to vice president of the International Division.

Daly earned additional responsibilities in 2003 when he was named group vice president, charged with directing the strategic path of the organization. In 2004, he was appointed chief operating officer, the role he held until he was hand-picked by Focus on the Family founder Dr. James Dobson to be the ministry's president.

Daly is a graduate of California State University, San Bernardino, earning a B.S. in Business Administration in 1984. During his senior year of study, he attended Waseda University in Tokyo. After graduating, Daly worked in the private sector for a FORTUNE 500 company.

In 1997, Daly completed his MBA in International Business at Regis University in Denver. In 2009, he received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Colorado Christian University, in Denver.

Daly has received the 2008 World Children's Center Humanitarian Award and the 2009 Children's Hunger Fund Children's Champion Award. He has appeared on such television programs as Glenn Beck, Hannity and Your World with Neil Cavuto, and is a regular panelist for The Washington Post/Newsweek blog "On Faith" alongside leading academics and theologians.

Daly’s next book, tentatively titled Stronger, will discuss in depth the ways God works through tragedy in the lives of His people. It is scheduled to be published in the fall of 2010.

Daly was born in 1961 and has been married to his wife, Jean, since 1986. They have two sons and reside in Colorado Springs, Colo."

Dogavinci!

Welcome to the first Dogavinci post! Today I will be showing you a wonderful painting called Lady Hamilton As 'Nature' by George Romney (1734-1802). I can't exactly identify this dog but if you can, comment on this post or any of the other Dogavinci posts too!

Here's some info about the artist, George Romney:

"George Romney was born in Lancashire, son of a cabinetmaker who trained under portrait artist, Christopher Steele. Before settling in London in 1762, he traveled from town to town, painting portraits for a living. He established a moderate reputation, but became even more successful after traveling through Italy to study Classical and Renaissance art. Romney wished to expand from portraiture into historical painting, a desire that was never fully achieved. This was partly because upon meeting Emma Hart in 1781, he became obsessed and painted many pictures of her afterwards. His career gradually declined and he returned to his native Kendal where he suffered from mental illness."

Disturbance in the Dog World!

I have very disturbing news to bring to everyone reading. A very bad dog incident occurred and I'm here today to tell you about it! Also check out the amazing video of this at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HJTG6RRN4E

It all began with a dog that was running across a highway and got hit by a car. It was still living but couldn't move, for it was very badly injured. Everyone driving was being very selfish because they wouldn't stop! This creature was left suffering on the road with no hope. But as if a miracle had struck, another dog came onto the highway and stayed by the motionless dog. Not only did it do that, but it also saved this dog's life. The rescuer of the dog grabbed the dog around the neck and started pulling it to the side of the road to safety! This was a very brave thing for a dog to do but later on the dog that suffered died. This amazing heroic deed is something that makes some people ask, "Are dogs more than just slobbery animals?"

Ask Annabel ~ Dalmations!

Today's dog that I will be researching is the Dalmatian!

#1. "The Dalmatian is a large, strong, muscular dog."
#2. "The nose can be either black, brown (liver), or blue or a dark grey that looks like black."
#3. "The medium-sized round eyes are either brown or blue or a combination of both."
#4. "The ears are set high, hanging down, gradually tapering to a rounded tip."
#5. "The chest is deep."
#6. "The feet are round with arched toes."
#7. "Toenails are white and/or black in black spotted dogs and brown and/or white in liver spotted dogs."
#8. "The short coat has fine dense hairs. The symmetrical coat is predominantly white with clearly defined round spots. THe spots can be black or brown (liver) which are the preferred colors in the show ring, but can also be, lemon, dark blue, tri colored, brindled, solid white, or sable. Bot all of these colors are accepted in the show ring, but they do occur in the breed. The more defined and distributed the markings are, the more valued the dog is to the show ring. Puppies are born completely white and the spots develop later."
#9. "Dalmatians were bred to run under or alongside horse-drawn carriages and therefore have a vast amount of stamina and energy."
#10. "They do not like to just sit around all day with nothing to do."
#11. "They are playful, happy, easy going and very dedicated."
#12. "They will not do well left out in the yard all day and have been known to dig crater size holes when done so."
#13. "The Dalmatian enjoys playing with children."
#14. "They get along well with other pets, but without proper human to dog alpha communication where the human clearly tells the dog that he/she is not in charge and fighting is an unwanted behavior, they may become aggressive with strange dogs."
#15. Height: 22-24 inches (50-60 cm.)"
#16. "Weight: About 55 pounds (25 kg.)"
#17. "Life Expectancy: About 10-12 years."
#18. "Litter size: Often large, not uncommon to have up to 15 pups in one litter."
