PBGVs!

The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is so cool so why don't you have a look at some facts about them!

#1. "Pronunciation: Peh-TEET BAS-et Griff-ON Ven-Dee-en."
#2. "The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is a small, low to the ground dog and is about 50% longer than it is tall."
#3. "The head is in good proportion with the rest of the body."
#4. "The domed skull is oval in shape when viewed from the side."
#5. "The black nose is large with wide nostrils."
#6. "The teeth meet in a scissors or level bite."
#7. "The oval eyes are large and dark."
#8. "The thin, long, oval, hair-covered ears reach almost to the tip of the nose."
#9. "The tail is medium in length, set high and carried like a saber well covered with hair."
#10. "The long, outer coat is harsh to the touch with a thick short undercoat. The dog has shaggy eyebrows, beard and mustache. The coat is white with any combination of lemon, orange, black, sable, tricolor or grizzle markings."
#11. "The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is sometimes called the "Little Griffon Vendeen Basset."
#12. "Cheerful, friendly, intelligent this little dog is comical to watch."
#13. "This delightful bugger is curious and self-assured."
#14. "Bold and lively; compact and robust, they love to explore."
#15. "It has a casual appearance, but is always alert."
#16. "Loves to dig and is an escape artist."
#17. "They are generally good with other dogs, but should not be trusted with non-canine pets, however can get along with cats."
#18. "The PBGV is intelligent and can be trained for many purposes."
#19. "It also has a great desire to please."
#20. "They are good with children and are fairly friendly with strangers."
#21. "A bored or lonely PBGV will make his own 'entertainment'. Giving your dog daily long pack walks, proper human to canine communication, along with a variety of toys and things to chew on, a safe environment and eliminating the opportunity to be destructive will control this potential problem."
#22. "The use of a crate not only provides this safety, but it also becomes his own special place."
#23. "A PBGV who is provided with the proper amount of mental and physical exercise along with strong leadership from the humans will be less likely to get himself in trouble."
#24. "Height: 13-15 inches (34-38cm.)"
#25. "Weight: 31-40 pounds (14-18cm.)"
#26. "Will do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They are very active indoors and prefer cooler weather, but will do ok in warmer weather. This is one breed that should not be allowed to be off lead. The hunting instinct is too strong. All that is needed is one small scent and your hunter will be off on the chase. Having a secure fenced in yard is a very good idea. The PBGV like to dig and can be great escape artists. Watch for small holes and/or signs of interest along the fence line. He would as soon go under as he would to go over."
#27. "They need to be taken on a daily walk. While out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as in a dog's mind the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. If under- exercised, this breed can become restless and destructive."
#28. "Life Expectancy: About 14 or more years."
#29. "Litter Size: 4 - 6 puppies ~ Average 5."

Papillons!

Papillons are so cool so why don't you have a look at some facts about them!

#1. "Pronunciation: PAP-ee-yon."
#2. "Also called the Continental Toy Spaniel, the Papillon is a small fine-boned little dog."
#3. "The small head is slightly rounded between the ears with a well defined stop."
#4. "The dark, medium sized, round eyes have black rims."
#5. "The large ears can either be erect or dropped with rounded tips. Papillon with drop ears are called Phalene Papillon (Moth). The hair on the ears is long, and fringed, giving it a butterfly-like look."
#6. "The teeth meet in a scissors bite."
#7. "The long tail is set high carried over the body, and covered with long hair."
#8. "The straight, long, fine, single coat has extra frill on the chest, ears, back of the legs and the tail. Coat color is white with patches of any color accept for liver. A mask of a color other than white covers both ears and eyes from back to front."
#9. "The Papillon is sometimes called the butterfly dog, because the ears look like butterfly wings."
#10. "It is a friendly, intelligent dog that is tougher than it looks, and loves outdoor exercise."
#11. "A playful, lively, amusing, animated and charming little dog."
#12. "Affectionate, gentle, patient, and proud, they love to cuddle."
#13. "Enjoys a good romp outdoors."
#14. "They are steady, obedient and are not yappers."
#15. "Papillons can be trained to perform small tricks."
#16. "Good with cats when they are socialized with them."
#17. "They can also be difficult to housebreak, but are in general easy to train otherwise."
#18. "Since most people who own small dogs, because of their size, unknowingly allow them to run the show, they are not generally recommended for young children. However, if you are your dog's firm, consistent pack leader, providing rules he must follow and limits to what he is and is not allowed to do, along with daily pack walks, the Papillon can be very trustworthy with children."
#19. "They will be calm if sufficiently exercised."
#20. "Height: Dogs 8-11 inches (20-28cm)
Bitches 8-11 inches (20-28cm)."
#21. "Weight: Dogs 8-10 pounds (4-5kg.)
Bitches 7-9 pounds (3-4kg)."
#22. "Although they can be good city dogs, they are sometimes not good apartment dogs, because the dog has a strong instinct to protect their property, and many will bark excessively at nearby noises, not making the distinction between casual noises and those worthy of a real alarm."
#23. "Papillon need a daily walk. Play will take care of a lot of their exercise needs, however, as with all breeds, play will not fulfill their primal instinct to walk. Dogs who do not get to go on daily walks are more likely to display behavior problems. They will also enjoy a good romp in a safe open area off lead, such as a large fenced in yard."
#24. "Life Expectancy: Some as long as 16 years."

#25. "The Otterhound is not recommended for apartment life. They are relatively inactive indoors if they have sufficient exercise. They do best with at least a large, well fenced yard. It can sleep outdoors in temperate or cool climates if given a good shelter."
#26. "The Otterhound needs a lot of daily exercise in a safe area or on a leash, and if possible, frequent swimming. They need to be taken on a daily walk or jog. While out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as in a dog's mind the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. They have a tendency to forget everything in the chase after an interesting scent is discovered, so therefore they should only be allowed to run free off the leash where they can be controlled and kept safe. They should have a well fenced yard and make excellent jogging companions."
#27. "Life Expectancy: About 10-12 years."
#28. "To avoid matting, the Otterhound's weather-resistant coat should be combed or brushed at least weekly. It may need its beard washed more frequently. The coat is suppose to look natural and therefore should not be clipped. This breed is an average shedder."

#2. "The top line is lower at the shoulders slopping higher towards the back end."
#3. "The chest is deep and broad."
#4. "The nose is black."
#5. "The teeth meet in a level or tight scissors bite."
#6. "Eyes come in brown, blue or one of each color."

#8. "The front legs are very straight and the hind legs are round and muscular."
#9. "The small feet point straight ahead are round with well arched toes."

#11. "The shaggy, double coat is long and profuse with a good hard textured outer coat and a soft waterproof undercoat. Coat colors include gray, grizzle, blue, blue gray, blue merle, gray with white markings or white with gray markings."
#12. "The Old English Sheepdog is stable and happy-go-lucky."
#13. "They are able to adjust oneself readily to different conditions, are loving and friendly."
#14. "Loyal, protective and intelligent, they make a fine family companion."
#15. "Friendly and gentle, they love and are good with children and are very much part of the family."
#16. "They have a strong herding instinct and may try to herd people by bumping, not nipping, and need to be taught not to herd humans."
#17. "This breed needs firm, but calm, confident and consistent leadership."
#18. "The bark of the Old English Sheepdog sounds like a cracked bell."
#19. "This breed remains puppy-like for many years, and age tends to hit them suddenly."
#20. "Height: Dogs 22-24 inches (56-61 cm)
Bitches 20-22 inches (51 cm)."

#23. "These dogs were developed for hard work and love a good run. They need to be taken on a daily walk, jog or run. While out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as in a dog's mind the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human."
#24. "Life Expectancy: About 10-12 years."
#25. "The coarse, longhaired coat needs constant care to keep it in top condition. Unless it is combed and brushed right through to the dense, water-proof undercoat at least three times per week, it will become matted and the dog may develop skin problems, making them prone to host parasites. Clip out any tangles carefully so as not to nick the skin. A grooming table will make the whole job easier. If the dog is not being shown, the coat can be professionally machine-clipped every two months or so, about one inch all the way around. In former times these dogs were shorn along with sheep. Trim around the eyes and rear-end with blunt-nosed scissors. This breed sheds like a human, not a lot but in small amounts."

Molly!

Hi Everyone!
As a special treat I'm going to post two special dogs on the blog plus Crazy Dawgs all in one day!
Today's other special dog is Molly!

Molly was adopted by my soon to be aunt, Marketa, as a present for her mother. While the days went on Marketa began to fall in love with Molly and decided to keep her. Molly is sweet and lovable and Marketa takes great care of her. On my trip out to Seattle I got to see Molly for the first time! Unfortunately, when Molly got older she became blind but I know she's still happy with her wonderful life!

Lucky!

Hi Everyone! Today I am going to post (along with Crazy Dawgs) a special dog special!
Today's featured dog is Lucky the yellow lab!
Lucky belonged to my Uncle Sean and Aunt Laura. He passed away at age 15 and he was special to the whole family. Now, my uncle and aunt have two Miniature Pinschers, one named Queen (the newest) and one named Usul. My uncle adopted Lucky when Lucky was just a puppy (around 6 months). Lucky was an awesome dog with a loving heart and a great amount of love for him. Rest in Peace.

Crazy Dawgs!
